How much does a robot dog cost in 2026?
Updated 2026-10 · RobotMarket editorial
The short answer
A consumer robot dog starts at roughly $1,600 (Unitree Go2) and tops out around $3,000 (Xiaomi CyberDog 2) before you reach industrial hardware. Industrial quadrupeds — the ones that carry 40 kg through a substation — start near $50,000 and run past $100,000 for the Unitree B2 and Boston Dynamics Spot.
The gap between those two worlds is the whole story of the robot-dog market. Unitree drove the consumer end down by an order of magnitude in five years; the industrial end stayed expensive because it is priced on payload, IP rating and reliability, not novelty.

What each price band buys you
A capable toy that is also a real platform. The Unitree Go2 has 4D LiDAR, AI-assisted movement and an SDK. You can walk it, program it, and — with the right kit — teach it tricks. It will not carry your shopping.
Enthusiast and education territory. More sensors, more torque, better software support. The Xiaomi CyberDog 2 is open-source and aimed squarely at developers; the Unitree R1 humanoid also lands here.
Professional and research tools. Bigger payloads, longer runtimes, ruggedisation. This is where a robot dog stops being a pet and starts being a colleague.
Industrial. IP-rated, 40 kg payloads, 6-hour shifts, service contracts. The Unitree B2 and Boston Dynamics Spot live here. You buy these to inspect, patrol or move things — daily, outdoors, in the rain.
The hidden costs
The purchase price is rarely the whole cost. Batteries are consumables (a Unitree Go2 spare battery is about $500), and industrial deployments add docking stations, fleet software and insurance. For a first robot dog, budget the purchase price again over three years for batteries, spares and accessories.
